Ms Nalini Venugopal (India International Insurance Pte Ltd Singapore)
Management Commmittee Member
Motor Committee Convenor
I am an insurance professional with over three decades of extensive experience in the general insurance industry, spanning underwriting, administration, human resources, and strategic leadership across India and Singapore.
I began my career in September 1988 as an Assistant Administrative Officer (Trainee) in Mumbai and steadily progressed through key operational and managerial roles with leading public sector insurers, including General Insurance Corporation of India and The New India Assurance Company Ltd. Over the years, I have held diverse positions across multiple regional and divisional offices in Mumbai, Ernakulam, Madurai, and Coimbatore, as well as key Head Office functions, gaining deep expertise in underwriting, fire and engineering, marine insurance, and human resource management.
In my leadership journey, I have served as Deputy Manager, Divisional Manager, Manager, Chief Manager, and Deputy General Manager, handling critical portfolios such as Fire Technical, Marine Hull, Marine Cargo, and Information Security at the Head Office level. My broad-based experience has enabled me to develop strong technical acumen as well as strategic insight into insurance operations.
Since October 2022, I have been serving as MD & CEO at III Pte. Ltd., Singapore, where I am responsible for driving business growth, underwriting performance, and profitability in a highly competitive international insurance market.
Under my leadership, the organization has consistently exceeded key performance targets. In 2025, the company achieved gross written premiums of approximately SGD 259 million against a target of SGD 220 million, maintained an incurred claims ratio below 75%, and delivered underwriting profits exceeding SGD 4.1 million and net profits of around SGD 37 million. These results reflect my strong focus on disciplined underwriting and effective risk management.
A firm believer in participative management, I attribute my success to empowering teams, encouraging open communication, and fostering collaborative decision-making. I am known for my ability to navigate complex stakeholder environments, resolve challenges constructively, and maintain a balance between commercial objectives and underwriting discipline.
Among my notable contributions are the successful restructuring of reinsurance treaties leading to improved capacity and cost efficiency and transforming the marine portfolio into a consistently profitable line of business. Under my stewardship, the company has emerged as a top performer in underwriting profitability in the marine line of business within the Singapore market and has earned strong recognition from reinsurers through sustained profit commissions.
Looking ahead, I am keen to further strengthen capabilities in information technology and digital transformation, recognizing their growing importance in the evolution of the insurance industry.
With a career marked by integrity, strategic foresight, and operational excellence, I intend to continue to contribute meaningfully to the advancement of the general insurance sector.
